Federal Computer Week To Increase Circulation to 93,000
Weekly Publication Delivers Largest Reach to Government IT

Falls Church, VA--November 12, 2002. Driven by reader demand, Federal Computer Week announced it will increase its circulation 8 percent to 93,000 qualified government IT decision makers, effective March 2003. “This boost will give Federal Computer Week the largest circulation in the government IT market,“ said Anne A. Armstrong, publisher of FCW Media Group.

The circulation increase follows the recent release of the IntelliQuest CIMS v9.0 readership study, which showed that Federal Computer Week now has a larger overall readership and is read by more technology buyers than Government Computer News, the other government IT publication measured in the study.

The circulation increase will come primarily through the addition of subscribers in state and local government functions, a market that the media brand has been serving for the last few years, said Jeffrey Calore, general manager of sales and marketing. During the past year, Federal Computer Week has expanded its coverage of intergovernmental IT initiatives, distributed bonus circulation to subscribers in state and local government and published an email newsletter covering state and local government IT initiatives. In concert with the circulation increase into the state and local government sector, Federal Computer Week will continue to expand its coverage of intergovernmental programs, policies and systems.

At the new circulation base of 93,000, Federal Computer Week will be the most efficient government IT media brand to reach all segments of the government market: civilian agencies, defense, systems integrators, and influential state and local government IT buyers. “Today’s government IT market has become highly collaborative,” explained Calore, “and it’s critical for government IT marketers to reach all the buyers who can influence a specific mission. We now provide access to all the buyers, with greater frequency and, as part of the FCW Media Group, a more complete set of media solutions than any other government IT brand in the market.”

According to the IntelliQuest findings, Federal Computer Week has passed Post Newsweek’s GCN in terms of overall readership. Federal Computer Week has an Average Issue Audience (AIA) of 397,000 readers, while GCN delivers only 327,000. IntelliQuest also reported that Federal Computer Week has the most loyal readers, reaches more influencers with formal technology buying involvement and delivers more technology buyers across every one of the five technology categories measured.

“We’re pleased with the IntelliQuest findings that confirm that we are providing our readers with valuable news and analysis, “ said Armstrong. “ Not only do we have more readers, but FCW is read more closely and more frequently than our competition.”

“Today’s government technology decision making is focused on missions, solutions and results, said Calore. “That’s what Federal Computer Week concentrates on, and that’s why our readership continues to grow."

The publication also released its 2003 rate card, which increased the one-time four-color full-page rate only 2.5 percent. With the 8 percent circulation increase, the cost per thousand subscribers reached will drop to the lowest in its competitive set.

“The government IT market is a bright spot in the technology sector,” said Armstrong. “2003 will be an important year with a series of new, large-scale technology-driven government initiatives driving spending. Our goal is to deliver the greatest value at the lowest cost to help IT marketers reach this market.”
