Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine Continues Its Evolution to Redmond Magazine
Addition of Lafe Low rounds out veteran editorial staff in advance of Redmond’s October launch

CHATSWORTH, CA – July 14, 2004 - With its Redmond Magazine set to debut in October, 101communications today announced a major addition to the magazine’s editorial staff.

Lafe Low will join Redmond as Executive Editor: Reviews. Low comes to the magazine from CXO Media, where he served as Features Editor for CIO Magazine. In that role, he was project manager for special issues, helped drive feature story concept development, directed a stable of freelance writers and editors, and wrote and edited feature articles. Low is a 2002 winner of the Neal Award as editor for best single feature and a member of the 2001 ASBPE Magazine of the Year award winning staff.

Low has a long history in the trade press, dating to 1985. He has worked in various editorial roles at magazines including InfoWorld, Service News, Computer Training News, ImagingWorld and PCGames. He also has experience in launching startup publications, having served as co-founder of Explore New England magazine in 1995, a magazine that allowed Low to marry his interest in the outdoors with his publishing expertise.

“The addition of Lafe Low is yet another example of the editorial investment we are making to ensure Redmond Magazine fulfills the objective embodied in its tagline: to be The Independent Voice of the Microsoft Community,” said Henry Allain, Publisher of Redmond and its predecessor, Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine.

Low will join a group of IT trade press veterans on the Redmond editorial team. They include:
• Doug Barney, Editor-in-Chief. Barney has 20 years of technology trade press experience, including stints as Editor-in-Chief of Network Computing, a bi-weekly publication with more than 220,000 subscribers, and Executive Editor of News for Network World.

• Paul Desmond, Editor. Desmond has 16 years of trade press experience, including 11 years with Network World, where he served as news editor and features editor. Desmond served as Executive Editor of Microsoft Executive Circle Magazine for three years, and was founding editor of a security Web site now known as eSecurityPlanet.com.

• Scott Bekker, News Editor. Bekker started covering the Microsoft enterprise environment for ENT Magazine in August 1998. He has been Editor-in-Chief at ENT and ENTmag.com since October 1999.

• Keith Ward, Managing Editor. Ward served as Senior Editor for Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine since 2001. He has been a print journalist since 1989, and is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer who has worked in the IT department of a Fortune 500 company.

“The addition of Lafe Low will help us deliver the kind of thorough product reviews, in-depth analysis and creative advice that our readers need to do their jobs,” Desmond said. “Like the rest of us, Lafe is passionate about being an advocate for our readers on all things Microsoft.”
