Visual Studio Magazine Announces Expanded Coverage, New Content Chief, Staff

Chatsworth CA. January 30, 2009 -- Visual Studio Magazine, the largest BPA-audited circulation magazine for enterprise-oriented professional developers and authoritative decision makers, is announcing a major expansion in content and staff. The publication will continue to produce detailed how-to and tutorial articles, but will extend coverage to include news, analysis and in-depth feature content from Redmond Developer News magazine. The initiative uniquely positions Visual Studio Magazine as the No. 1 source for developers to obtain hands-on training, in-depth news analysis and insightful commentary in the fast-moving .NET development space.

Michael Desmond comes to Visual Studio Magazine from RDN, where he was editor in chief of the twice-monthly news publication serving .NET software development managers. Launched in 2006, RDN earned recognition as the best new publication and best new B2B Web site by the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE). Desmond has also served in senior editorial positions at Redmond, PC World and Multimedia World magazines.

"I am very excited about the changes at Visual Studio Magazine," Desmond said. "The arena of .NET development remains incredibly dynamic and challenging, and Visual Studio Magazine has a vital role to play helping developers to master critical skills and anticipate approaching challenges. We have an opportunity now to bring together the best aspects of RDN and Visual Studio Magazine, and to create a dynamic, exciting and, ultimately, invaluable source of information for our developer readership.”

As part of the transition, RDN print coverage will be folded into Visual Studio Magazine. The RDN Web site (http://RedDevNews.com) will continue to operate and will provide expanded news, reporting and analysis for the .NET developer community.

Also joining the staff of Visual Studio Magazine are Executive Editor Kathleen Richards and News Editor Jeffrey Schwartz. Richards is a development industry veteran who has served as senior editor at Application Development Trends (http://ADTmag.com) and RDN. She will also guide RedDevNews.com.

Jeffrey Schwartz comes to Visual Studio Magazine from RDN, where he served as executive editor and directed the publication’s news section. As news editor at Visual Studio Magazine, he will drive breaking coverage of news, products and technology. Schwartz will also direct ADTmag.com, which addresses cross-platform enterprise application development news, trends and best practices. Prior to arriving at RDN, Schwartz served as senior editor at VAR Business.

"These exciting developments demonstrate our renewed commitment to Visual Studio Magazine and the Web site RedDevNews.com,” said Henry Allain, president of 1105 Enterprise Computing Group. "I’m confident Michael and his award-winning staff will be fantastic stewards of both of these properties and will also bring great leadership in content creation to VS Live!, the definitive event for .NET developers and the Visual Studio suite. With the largest BPA-audited circulation in the space, as well as the largest Web offering, we are well positioned to deliver superior ROI to our advertisers and the most insightful and useful content to our readers.”
