Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine Announces Editors’ Choice Awards
11 Products IT Professionals Can’t Live Without

Irvine, CA. November 22, 2002—The December issue of Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine features the publication’s first Editors’ Choice Awards, a selection of products in 11 categories that are tops in their fields. The list of winners was developed by polling MCP Magazine’s contributing editors and reviewers, asking them to name the products they can’t live without.

“What’s interesting about this best-of-breed software is that some of these products are quite inexpensive and come from companies that are little-known,” said Dian Schaffhauser, editorial director for MCP Magazine. “Anybody who thinks the days of garage development are over isn’t looking hard enough. Likewise, many well-known firms are staying strong and continuing to offer solutions that resonate with IT professionals and just plain make their work more effective.”

Winners of the 2002 Editors’ Choice Awards are:

LC4 by @stake in the category of Security;
Galaxy by CommVault Systems in the category of Backup;
DameWare NT Utilities by DameWare Development in the category of Training;
FAZAM 2000 v.3 by Full Armor Software in the category of Active Directory Management and Migration;
GFI MailEssentials for Exchange/SMTP 7 by GFI Software USA in the category of Exchange Anti-Virus;
Windows 2000 Resource Kit by Microsoft Press in the category of Windows 2000 Administration;
O&O Defrag v4 Professional by O&O Software in the category of Defragmentation;
Primalscript by Sapien Technologies in the category of Scripting;
Personality Tranxport Professional Version 3.0 by Tranxition Corporation in the category of NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 Migration;
VisualRoute 6.1a by Visualware in the category of DNS Name Resolution, and
Who’s On by Who’s On in the category of IIS Monitoring

“Current economic conditions demand creative and cost-effective solutions to the challenges of managing Windows networks,“ said Schaffhauser. “What comes out of Microsoft’s OS development teams--while vital to overall excellent network operations -- is never the total answer. With the release of Windows .NET Server 2003 in the first half of next year, we would expect new winners in new categories we haven’t even thought up yet -- from both tried-and-true companies that have proven their value through the years as well as new organizations looking to make their mark. Ultimately, the real winners are the systems engineers themselves who are using these products.”

Honorable mentions were named in each category as well. For profiles of the winners and the list of honorable mentions, visit www.mcpmag.com.
