I use Invision Power Board...it's free with the copyrights...charge if you want to remove em. Nice board lots of little extras....

I agree w/ Mike as well I hate this forums interface...

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback -- Can you be more specific about what you hate about these forums and what features you prefer with the other interfaces?

Thanks!

-- Becky :-)

1.) The quoting gets screwed up alot..especially if you go back and edit a message.

2.) No offense Becky (please! you asked)...the interface is ugly! (They are antisceptic looking...like a Dr's office almost)

3.) Tools available to the user are the absolute minimum...most boards have calendars (where events can be posted)..users can customize how things appear to them...

4.) The fact that you have to manually update a users member status is just crazy.

5.) No polls!

I will have more for you tomorrow it's getting late

It's plain, it lacks functionality, and it's broken/buggy. Specifically:

- We can't change skins - how the forum is displayed to the end user. The current skin looks very basic and... plain... gray, black and white.
- We can't have avatars.
- We can't create polls.
- We can't rate posts.
- We can't rate users.
- We can't send private messages.
- We can't tell if a user is online or not.
- We must bracket smileys - this is the only forum I've seen that doesn't recognize plain old ":)".
- There are only 16 smileys available - not a very large selection.
- We can't change whether posts are viewed as linear or threaded.
- We can't choose our time zone, so the post times are always messed up - the time is *always* 2 hours behind my time zone.
- We have no idea what it takes to reach certain member levels. At least, I don't. And there's no reason why you guys should have to do that manually.
- Profiles are very limited in scope.
- We can't upload or link to images.
- We can't subscribe to threads.
- Quoting is broken. When editing a post, if we don't manually re-enter line breaks, quoting becomes all messed up.
- When I log on to CC from any computer other than the first one I used, CC can't seem to remember which posts I've seen (even after deleting cookies). That pretty much limits me to using CC on one computer (if I want to see every post).
- We can't change how many replies we can see per page.
- We can't edit using WYSIWYG, nor can we highlight an area and click bold (or other formatting) and have the tags appear around the selected text.
- We can't add spaces within hyperlink text - we're forced to use underscores, or else we get "%20"s where the spaces are.
- The FAQ and/or forum rules are not easily accessible (if they exist in the forums at all).
- There's no mechanism for users to report a bad post (spam, braindumps, etc.).
- and, last but not least... the forums are often down.

These aren't issues with the other forums I visit.

I hate to bring all this to the surface... but you asked, and I'd love to see the forum improved.

Surely you guys at CC have taken a look at the other forums to see what y'all are up against... haven't you? :(

yeah...umm. Well Mike about covered it .

He gave some very good specific problems...and I agree with all of them. When a user can personalize their experience a little it make them want to stick around and be part of the community...

No guys -- this is great stuff! Don't feel bad at all -- please keep it coming. I can't fix stuff if I don't know it exists.

I will get working on this and see what I can do.

The suggestions regarding the use of vBulletin and phpBB and Invision Power Board are great. You can use those as a foundation - for the infrastructure - and then add customizations to make it "your own"... to give it your own flavor so it doesn't look just like all the other forums out there. But without a good foundation... everything else laid upon it is broken.
